Career Tip:
You think LinkedIn doesn’t matter? You’re Wrong. Haven’t updated your LinkedIn in a while because your content with your current job? You think no one is checking your profile out? You’re wrong. LinkedIn is now the go-to place for interviewers, recruiters, and clients to learn more about you. It’s not enough anymore to just have your previous work experience listed. People who come to your LinkedIn page want to get to know YOU. One easy way to do this is by beefing up your LinkedIn Summary. This is a great space to tell the world who you are and what your career intentions are. Here’s an article with 5 LinkedIn Summary templates (I personally like Template #4).
Life Hack:
Double Your Book Consumption with Amazon Audible. I’m a terribly slow reader. Growing up I had to seek private reading lessons after school to try to keep up with my classmates. Reading was always more painful than fun for me, and as a result, throughout high school and college I never read more than what was required. Even as I tip-toed into my adult years and saw the value of reading, it would take me weeks to complete a book.
It wasn’t until I subscribed to Amazon Audible that my enjoyment and consumption of books escalated. I now have my books on my iPhone at all times and listen on car rides, subways and airplanes. Even if you’re a sufficient reader already, Audible will easily double the number of books you consume.
Book to Read:
Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown. Do you ever feel as though your stretched too thin? Are you constantly being pulled in different directions at work simply adhering to other people’s agendas? Essentialism can be your way out. Instead of teaching you how to get more things done in less time, essentialism teaches a whole new discipline of getting only the right things done. By helping us create a selective criteria for what is essential in our lives, the book empowers us to reclaim choices in our lives about where to spend our precious time and energy. Shoutout to STL Member Jarrett Sylvester for sending this my way!
