Career Tip:
Sell Like They’re Your Client. I have a tendency to get nervous before sales calls. I get this little flutter in my stomach. Am I ready? Will they like me? Will they BUY from me? But what I realized recently, with the help of STL member Pema Sherpa, is that this anxiousness makes me come across as desperate. Who wants to buy from an anxious and desperate person? No one. So what’s the solution? Pretend you’ve already made the sale. Be a consultant, not a sales person. Now, smile and have a conversation, not a sales pitch.
Life Hack:
You’re Never Going to be Ready. How long do you plan to wait? Another month? Another year? Forever? Let’s face it. You’re never going to be ready. The stars will never align perfectly. Whether it’s a new promotion you want, a new career, or to start a side hustle, you have to be willing to take the jump – to put yourself out there. When I started this blog nearly two years ago, I wasn’t ready. I had no idea what I was doing, hell I still don’t. But by doing it, I’m learning – moving forward – in the right direction. What are you waiting to be ready for? When are you going to put your doubts aside and make the leap?
Article to Read:
7 Key Takeaways from the 12 Week Year by Mike Fishbein. A few weeks ago on the blog I told you about the book The 12 Week Year, which was passed onto me by STL Member Lynn Le. Since then, another one of my readers, Mike Fishbein, picked up the book and created a blog article to go with it. If you’re looking for a distilled version of the book, that teaches you how to get more done in 12 weeks than others do in 12 months, then check out Mike’s article. STL Side Note: This is also a great example of how this community can help us. From Lynn to me to Mike to you!
Podcast to Check Out:
Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferriss. If you’re a longtime reader of the STL blog then you know I’m a huge fan of Tim Ferriss. Tim’s book, The 4 Hour Work Week, changed my perception of work-life balance, business, and travel. His new podcast, Tribe of Mentors, packs just as much of an impact. In it he interviews world class performers, just like in his other podcast The Tim Ferriss Show, but now it’s in a short, concise 30 minute format.
Quote of the Week:
“If you did not get what you want it’s a sign that you did not seriously want it or that you tried to bargain over the price” – Rudyard Kipling

Check out Oddisee – Own Appeal. Yes, it’s hip hop.
