Career Tip:

You Get Knocked Down, But You Get Up AgainAt different times in our career it’s easy to feel like we’re failing. We can feel like we’re moving laterally or maybe even stuck. There might be a toxic boss who’s weighing you down or the job you just started isn’t what you thought it would be. Maybe you can’t hit your sales quota or that promotion is a year overdue.

I know it’s not easy. I’ve been in your shoes too. Here are two things you can do now to help you through a difficult patch in your career: 1) Remember that you are not your work. Who you are in your career in no way reflects who you are as a person. Your core values still survive outside of your work identity – don’t let a bad boss or difficult work situation change that. 2) You have the power to change your situation. Nothing is insurmountable no matter how dire the situation may seem. Identify the problem and face it head on. It’ll be a process, but it’ll be worth it. Have a specific situation you want advice on? Email me: brendan@straddletheline.co

Life Hack:

Warren Buffett’s 25 to 5 RuleLife is short. You only have so many days on this planet to figure out what you really want to do and then to do it.Warren Buffett, the richest man in America, developed a system to help you narrow down your dreams into the core essentials which you can then use to guide your life. Here’s Warren’s system: Step 1) Write down a list of the top 25 life goals. Step 2) Circle your top 5 goals. Step 3) Ignore anything outside the top 5.

The goal of Warren’s system is to help you map out what is essential in your life and what is not. By focusing on only your top 5 lifetime goalsyou can be laser focused on achieving them and by eliminating secondary goals you can rid yourself of lingering distractions.
